How long will the hiring process take for a
Nanny or Caregiver ?
When hiring a Nanny or Caregiver locally in Ontario the process is different
with each families requirements. It may take any where from 1 month
to 3 months to select the right Caregiver, meet your criteria and
process background checks. When hiring from overseas the process could take 3-6 months, allowing for the visa and
immigration process, health and criminal record checks.
What responsibilities will I have as an
employer ?
As an employer you will be required to remit payroll deductions to include
taxes, EI , CPP. Live-In-Caregivers must live with you and be
provided with a furnished room and be employed with you on a full time basis.
If for any reason the arrangement with the Caregiver does not work out, 5star
Caregivers and Nannies will replace the employee free of charge. The Employer
will be obliged to provide the appropriate notice of termination to the
employee along with a letter of recommendation.

Our Caregivers and Nannies ages range from 22 years of age and older.

What other duties can Caregivers provide ?
The duties our Caregivers and Nannies can provide you is different for each
family and based on your needs, they may include, tutoring, non-medical personal care,
such as assistance with personal hygiene, meal preparation, mobility, bathing,
dressing, playing, reading, supervising social activities, and housekeeping
chores like laundry, ironing, tidying up and meal preparation.
What do I pay the Caregiver ?
The live-in caregiver program is for full-time care. The caregiver's payment
is dependant on what Province you reside in. In Ontario the minimum wage
is $9.25 an hour based on a minimum work week of 44 hours. You may make
the hours more flexible to meet your needs, it does not have to be 9am-5pm.
You may have your caregiver work less hours but you must still pay them
the same minimum salary. The Employer may also deduct from this amount a maximum
of $85.25 per week for room and board
What is the eligibility requirements to become a live-in Caregiver ?
Canadian Government requirements are; You must be able to speak, read and understand English or French. A confirmation letter of employment from a
Canadian employer. You must have completed a high school
education that is equivalent to a grade 12 education in Canada or 72 credits from a University or College. You must have completed 12
months of full-time paid employment (this must include at least 6 months of
continuous employment with the same employer) in a field related to the work you want to do in Canada, such as childcare,
care giving, early
childhood education, geriatric care, special needs education, pediatric nursing
to name a few.
